The Traditional Preparation Guide:

1. The Curing (The Wash): Fill the bottle with inexpensive red wine or gin. Let it sit for 3 to 5 days to "cleanse" the roots and remove the initial bitterness of the new wood. Discard this liquid.

2. The Infusion: Refill the bottle with approximately 70% Dark Rum, 25% Red Wine, and 5% (or to taste) Honey.

3. Aging: Store in a cool, dark place for at least 7 days. The longer it macerates, the smoother the "Spirit of the Island" becomes!
